Although Ponce de León was never looking for a “fountain of youth” when he landed on Florida’s shore in 1513, the Sunshine State continues to be associated with these mythical and magical waters. Join author Rick Kilby as he takes you through the cultural journey of Florida’s transformation into a land of rejuvenating springs. Through postcards, vintage advertisements, original photographs, and other “Ponceabilia,” Kilby shows how Florida has used its unique waters to attract tourists and new residents. You will also discover that many of these beloved springs, which are vital to our past and future, are now at risk. Committed to preserving the natural and historic resources of Florida, Kilby is the author of the blog “Visual Ephemera: Musings from the State I’m In,” as well as the book “Finding the Fountain of Youth: Ponce de León and Florida’s Magical Waters.” 1-2:30 p.m.; followed by book signing. Free. Refreshments provided. Call (407) 836-7010 to register.
