My name is Karl Schilling and I have over 25 years experience as a former NCAA, NAIA and JuCo coach. My experience includes coaching, scouting and recruiting. I formerly served as a MLB scout, professional coach and instructor. As a former college World Series coach I understand what college coaching staffs are looking for and how they use the process to their advantage. If you want to win this process, you need an expert on your side!
Please understand the first rule is this is not about friendship or niceties. This is a process and there are certain steps that will allow you to succeed throughout the process.

10 Most Common Myths and Mistakes

1.College Coaches will find me: College coaches have a process to weed out players. This process is not to find players it is to eliminate players. There is a big difference between finding and eliminating. In the elimination process Coaches begin with identifying potential players for their program. They get prospects names from a variety of places including, national publications, well-connected HS coaches, personal scouting (only the big schools as budgets have cut most of this type… Continue

Collegiate Recruiting and Eligibility Process" What every HS player and their family MUST know!

As it is with any process, it is important to know what you don’t know! The majority of High School athletes and their families miss the mark on the COLLEGE RECRUITING AND ELIGIBILITY PROCESS. While there are many reasons for this, the simple truth is that players and families FAIL from a simple lack of knowledge.

For this type of decision you want to rely upon a professional advocate who knows the system and can hold your hand and walk you and your family successfully through this… Continue

Hi Karl. Yes, he is still pitching. He recovered nicely from his broken thumb and has been playing USSSA travel ball as well as local Oviedo Babe Ruth. Right now, he is in the middle of the All-Star tournament for Babe Ruth. His team went undefeated through district play and now go on to the State Tournament in a week or so. He was the starter in the first district tournament game and threw 4 great innings. However, on the next to last pitch he felt a pull in his upper arm. We took him to the Dr. and he said it was nothing serious--just an over-stressed tendon in the rotator cuff/bicep area--but prescribed 10 visits to a physical therapist to strengthen that tendon before he pitches again. He feels much better now, but it still bothers him a bit. That was only about 10 days ago, though and he still needs time to heal. The Dr. said that he is so big and strong for his age that he can essentially throw harder than his tendon could accept, therefore he needs to get his tendon up to speed with the rest of his body. Other than that, he is doing great. He usually hits two or three home runs per tournament and then gets intentionally walked two or three times!! It frustrates the heck out of him--but I tell him it's really quite a compliment. We would still like to get together with you sometime and have you look at his pitching. Maybe after this tournament schedule. I'll give you a call when he is finished with All-Stars. He has been seeing Mike Rebhan in Longwood for about a year now. Mike was an assistant coach on a travel team we were on at the time. The team broke up when the manager left, but we have stayed with Mike as a pitching coach ever since. Mike was the MVP of the 1990 College World series for the Ga Bulldogs as a pitcher and has given us some great advice and coaching. Take care and thanks for keeping in touch.
