"Everybody is supposed to be equal in this country. By voting NO on question 1, I’m casting a vote for equality and a vote for my son.
Americans have shown the world again and again that we can figure out how to take all kinds of different people and live together as neighbors and fellow citizens in spite of our differences.
Do I believe in equal rights? What do you think I fought for on Omaha Beach?
I've seen with my own eyes in the camps and ovens at Buchenwald and Dacau the results of a caste system that makes some people less than others.
That is what we fought for in WWII. That idea that we can be different and still be equal.
My wife and I did not raise four sons with the idea that three of them would have a certain set of rights, but our gay child would be left out. We raised them all to be hardworking, proud and loyal Americans. They all did good.
I think if two adults who love each other want to get married, they should be able to. Everybody is supposed to be equal in this country. Let’s make sure we are in Maine."

In the last couple days this video has really taken off -- shooting up to 277,000 views on YouTube with the help of a few key blogs. It's helping marriage equality get some much-needed attention both in Maine and nationally. If it keeps climbing, it could even end up on a "most viewed" list on YouTube, which would get this important message seen by even more people.
I hope you'll watch this touching video and pass it on to your friends today.
Thank you for your support.
