"Sure Shots" are easy-to-remember references to major areas of instruction. They can be used when practicing or during a round of golf. When playing golf, it is always much better to have a simple thought to get your swing on track rather than thinking through volumes of ideas and fixes that serve only to confuse you even further.
You can use these small references to better shot making without too much “junk” on your mind. Obviously, these bits of golf information need to be absorbed over a long period of time to prevent “analysis from paralysis.”
Here are some Sure Shots!
Swinging without balance is like driving your car without a steering wheel. The car will take you wherever it goes. Balance in your swing promotes sequencing, pace, control and most importantly, consistency. Without balance, the swing has no governance.
Good golf swings are a result of Incremental Development - learning the swing from the Hole out to the Tee, building those segments of the swing that ultimately become the entire swing. It starts by getting a sense of soft swing arms, weight transfer and then body rotation, and then to initiate those swing arms while maintaining your club height that creates a “brushing” sound through the grass. PUTT (arms only) – CHIP (arms only with very slight weight transfer- if any) – PITCH (arms swing, weight transfer and body rotation).
We are creatures of habit. What and how we do things become “our way” of doing whatever it is! If you have tried to learn golf without good guidance, it is guaranteed that you have started creating incorrect actions. It is amazing how soon these actions become ingrained. The use of wrong muscles at the wrong time is the first huge mistake. Now your instructor has to undo what you have and begin a proper course of input. YOU WILL FEEL RESISTANCE TO THE NEW INPUT! It is changing what we are accustomed to.
