Every day I'm hearing about people losing their jobs. Every day I hear about job dissatisfaction. Every day I hear someone say, "why isn't my resume getting me interviews?" I talked some friends of mine who opted to pay $3k to have a resume done. When I mentioned that I do resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn enhancement, they hit their head and say, "darn, I forgot". When I told them that I charge less than $100 they looked at me and asked me if I'd review their resume. What did I see? I saw a one pager that didn't tell the whole story. I saw an objective that told his future employer what HE wanted to do. It didn't address the skill sets that the employer wanted him to do. It didn't show a lot of quantitative information. No comparisons possible between them and their peers. And finally, it showed at least one typographical error. I pointed these out and they shook their heads. I also mentioned that veterans status needed to be added. I told them that I'd just touched the surface!! .
These are just a few of the areas I critique. I go much deeper and much more action oriented. His cover letter said, "Dear Sir" showing lack of "due diligence" on his part. I fixed that too. I've been doing recruiting for 25 years and I know the good from the bad and ugly.
