Perhaps it’s ego driven or perhaps a sense of purpose, but after much time scrolling the threads of others on Facebook and Twitter – and participating to a degree – I have a need to express my views in a forum of my choosing.  And while other forums provide opportunity to discuss issues, they also cater to a hit-and-run mentality.  Post a photo of morning breakfast, provide an update on traffic, and lob a “grenade” of discourse – whether or not you understand the subject matter.

I was in elementary school when my father started my preparation for life as a registered voter.  He was watching the 1968 republican convention and took time to explain the concept of ballots, roll calls, delegates and candidates.  I can’t say I remember much but I do have recollection of a roll call as Richard Nixon battled Nelson Rockefeller, Ronald Reagan and George Romney (the guy born in Mexico) for the nomination.  History tells us others were on the ballot but those four are…

A bit back I contacted the alumni association at the University of Florida.  Why Florida?  For the same purpose, I could have contacted Miami or South Florida.  I also could have contacted Florida State or Central Florida.  But as the Gators are riding a hot streak - March Madness and all - they seemed suitable.  Perhaps it’s a Maslow Hierarchy or Manifest Destiny thing.  Go forth and conquer ... or at least be entertained.
