How a "Sitting Circle" works.... SAVE MONEY!!

In this economy everyone is going to need to cut back on expenses. A "Sitting Circle" is a great way to provide your child with supervision and with people you trust. How it works is this... parents join the "circle" and offer their baby-sitting services to other members. For every hour you "sit" for someone else in the circle... you get an hour of credit that you can spend to have your child watched by someone else in the group.

Of course... to start a "circle" someone has to be the leader and keep track of the points for everyone. You make up your own rules as you go along... For instance it might be 1 point, per kid, per hour.

There are many benefits to this... in this economy, forming a sitting circle is a great way to control your budget... but still be free to get out and get business done, take a break, etc. Also... your kids develop regular ongoing relationships with the other kids of the "circle" so they have more stability and look forward to the next time they "get together" with their new friends.

You never know what might develop. We had a group years ago who did this... and one of the things they did was take turns hosting ALL the kids on Saturday afternoon. If there are 5 people in the group this means every 5th Sat you have all the kids to entertain. However it also means that you have 4 other Saturdays "off." They also took turns taking kids for an entire weekend... so "Mom & Dad" got some quality "date time."

If you like the idea of being part of a "Sitting Circle" ... you can "REPLY" to this post and tell a little about yourself and your kids... provide your cell number and the general area of town you live in and invite other parents to contact you. In no time you are on your way to more free time... for FREE... with the added benefit of being part of a community of other parents.

I would love to find something like this, however I would have to be in a circle with parents willing to care for my child. She is a type 1 diabetic. Since she is 3, an 'adult' has to give her the shots and test her. It requires a lot of extra diligence you don't need for a 'normal' kid. Basically every time she puts food in her mouth she needs to be tested!
Perhaps if there are more parents out there with 'special needs' children, there could be a group specifically for that. Our needs might all be a bit different, but someone already used to caring for a child that needs extra watching/attention should naturally be more aware of caring for another child with the same needs. Not to mention giving those parents a break is probably even more appreciated than someone with a 'normal' child. Since preschools and daycare's don't have nurses on-staff (generally) I cannot put my daughter in a program for more than a couple hours. This means she is almost always home with me while I try to work on our family business. It's a challenge! :-)
